The Doghouse of Brooklyn is based in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn and is owned and operated by Kim Pokorosky and Karen Sheinheit. Insured and trusted, we offer a host of services that include pet sitting, check-in visits, dog walking, boarding, daycare and training.

We understand when it comes to pet care, one size does not fit all. Each pet has their own unique personality and needs.

At the Doghouse we cater to those needs and cultivate relationships on a one to one basis. We specialize in individual care and treat each pet as a member of our family.

During each visit we will provide updates with photos and texts to give you peace of mind.

Kim has cared for animals her entire life. Growing up there was always a house full of dogs, cats and the occasional hamster.

Besides caring for dogs, cats, and other small creatures, Kim also has experience with exotic pets. As a zoo keeper and wildlife rehabilitation volunteer, she ran the gamut of caring for birds and reptiles to large carnivores.

Kim is a CPDT-KA trainer (Certified by the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers) and uses positive reinforcement training methods.

Karen was born an animal lover. Surrounded by pets as a child - dogs, cats, gerbils, bunnies - she learned how to care for her little buddies at an early age. As an adult no home was complete without a furry friend. 

After losing their 17 year old husky retriever rescue, Wiley, in 2014 Kim and Karen founded the Doghouse of Brooklyn as a way to keep Wiley’s memory alive.

WALKING

All walks include fresh water and feeding, if necessary.

We also offer individual behavioral walks for dogs that need special attention. Contact us for further information.

Daycare

Daycare is exclusive to one dog at a time (with the exception of siblings). If you prefer your pet has a play pal, we can arrange that based on compatibility.

All daycare visits include 1-2 walks, playtime, fresh water and feeding, if necessary. Medications may be administered if necessary.

We provide updates with photos and texts to give you peace of mind.

overnights

We offer boarding in our home or if your dog prefers the comfort of his/her own home we will stay with them.

During overnight stays your dog will have at least 3 walks, scheduled feedings, and plenty of indoor and outdoor playtime.

Medications may be administered if necessary.

We'll provide several updates with photos and texts to give you piece of mind.

DAILY CHECK-IN

 We would be happy to provide a relief walk or mid day check-in for your pet. This includes fresh water and feeding, if necessary.

Our regular office hours are 9 AM to 6PM Monday-Friday.  Walks before 9 AM and after 6PM and those scheduled on Saturday and Sunday will incur a $10.00 surcharge.

A $20 surcharge per day will be applied during holidays.

Additional fees will be applied for puppies and non-housebroken pets. Please inquire.

meet and greet

New clients will be required to schedule a meet and greet before services commence. All pet owners will be required to fill out a form chronicling their pet's basic needs, feeding and watering schedules, medical history, behavioral issues, and any special requests.

HOLIDAYS

Additional charges will be applied for all holidays and long weekends. Major holidays fill up quickly so please book as far in advance as possible.

emergencies

All pet owners are required to provide name, address and phone number of their vet.  In case of emergency we will make every effort to contact you or your emergency contact. If we deem the emergency serious enough we will transport your pet to the nearest facility.

FOOD and other supplies

It is the responsibility of the pet owner to supply food and treats as well as all required medications. If your dog is crated please provide a crate.

Optional pet supplies that owners may provide include toys, clothing and beds.

Availability

Since we are a small company that caters to individual care we fill up quickly.  Please book in advance, as all services are subject to availability.

CANCELLATIONS

Again, since we are a small company that caters to individual care we make every effort to keep our calendar up to date and adhere to a set schedule based on confirmed bookings.

We understand life happens and plans change. We will try to be accommodating with reasonable notice given, but must impose fees for late cancellations on boarding and sitting.

Any cancellation made within 7 days prior to booking date will incur a 50% cancellation fee of the full amount of services.

Any cancellation made within 5 days prior to booking date will incur a 100% cancellation fee of the full amount of services.
